Slavica Slovaca is an independent scholarly periodical published by the Ján Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, v. v. i. It represents a key publication platform for Slovak Slavistics.
Since 1965, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, through its institutes, has published the interdisciplinary Slavistic journal Slavica Slovaca, which is indexed in several international databases (Scopus, CEJSH, ERIH PLUS, CEEOL, OAJI).
Throughout its entire history, the publishing continuity of the journal has remained with the Slovak Academy of Sciences and its institutes, as documented by the journal mastheads:
1966–1973
The publisher was the Slovak Academy of Sciences through the Institute of World Literature and Languages of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
1974–1994
Publishing responsibilities were carried out by several institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences: the Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Literary Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Institute of World Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Ethnography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Ethnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
1995–2010
The publisher was the Slavistic Cabinet / Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences; publication was carried out in cooperation with Matica slovenská on the basis of a written agreement.
2011–2025
The publisher has been the Ján Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences; publication was carried out in cooperation with the Slovak Committee of Slavists, civic association, which replaced Matica slovenská in this arrangement.
On 29 May 2026, the Ján Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, v. v. i., terminated this cooperation agreement: [https://www.crz.gov.sk/zmluva/12436125/]
As of the 2026 volume, the publisher of the journal is the Ján Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, v. v. i. The first issue will be published in October, the second issue in November, and the third issue in December 2026.

The journal is published three times a year in both print and electronic form. It publishes scholarly studies, review articles, reports, and reviews in the fields of linguistics, history, ethnology, cultural studies, and the history of Slavistics.
It focuses on interdisciplinary and comparative research into the relations of the Slovak language and culture with other Slavic and non-Slavic languages and cultures, including Slovak–Church Slavonic, Slovak–Latin, and Slovak–German relations.
As the principal publication organ of Slovak Slavistics, it also publishes excerpts from the annual reports of the Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and information on international Slavistic events.

The Statute of the journal, the editorial team, and the Editorial Board were approved by the Scientific Board of the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, public research institution, on 8 July 2026.
The publication principles of Slavica Slovaca are applied in accordance with the ethical code of publication practice defined in the documents of the international forum Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Contributions are published in the following sections: studies, review articles, reports, and reviews. The maximum length of a contribution is 25 standard pages (1 standard page = 1,800 characters including spaces). The assignment of a contribution to a particular section falls within the competence of the editorial office.

The content of the journal is freely available. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, and link to the texts without prior permission from the publisher or the author, except for commercial use.
Publication in the journal is free of charge, with no APC fees.
